organic soap

bubble buddy mint full set

In 2018 we – Goodtogive and Foekje Fleur – came up with Bubble Buddy, a soap dish made from recycled plastic that helps you reduce plastic waste by switching from bottles to bars.

When purchasing a bottle of shampoo, body wash, or cleaning detergent you mostly buy a plastic bottle, heaps of water, and only a tiny bit of soap. Such a waste! A great alternative has been around for centuries, but we almost forgot about it: the soap bar. We dove into the world of soap and created 4 special bars that together can replace about every bottle in your home. Bye-Bye plastic bottles! Hello! Organic and vegan soap bar!

Our new soap is kindly developed and handmade in Italy with certified organic ingredients. All bars are vegan, not containing any palm oil, and obviously not tested on animals. Due to natural ingredients, it makes your skin feel not only clean and soft but also nourished. The traditional cold process technique requires patience and steadily stirring. This gentle method leads to a higher quality of the product because the oils stay intact.

The organic and vegan soap bar is highly concentrated and strong enough to challenge soap in plastic bottles and is even more economical in use. Especially when combined with a soap dish that dries your soap bar fully after each use. Bubble Buddy works very well but other options with good drainage can do the job too.

The soaps are biodegradable and can be used in all kinds of filtering systems.

Each soap comes in an illustrated cardboard box designed by Sue Doeksen. The colorful boxes make lovely gifts for babies, hipsters, and old ladies.

Werfzeep Soap

We have been big fans of Werfzeep since forever. Werfzeep sources their ingredients from organic producers around the world and also collects raw materials in the lovely Wickenburgh forest. They harvest different ingredients and grow various herbs and roots in their own garden, most of them edible. All soaps are handmade in their soaps studio in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and wrapped carefully in a sheltered workshop.

Please find below a selection of our favorites from Werfzeep, with some very specialty items such as shaving soap and the nourishing calendula bar.

Liquid soap

Liquid soap is not more hygienic than bars of soap, however it is much more expensive because you buy a lot of water and a plastic bottle. If you are a fan of liquid soap anyway you can use this recipe to make safe, organic, cheap and plastic free liquid soap.

Let’s take a look at these household economics first:
So one bar costs €4,70

It can make 6 x 500 ml bottles of liquid soap at 78 cents per bottle
It can refill 12 hand soap pumps at 39 cents each
It can make 15 bottles of cleaning spray at 23 cents each

I suggest to use the whole bar and make a lot, the soap will last a long time

Stuff you need

-Large 4 or 5 L pan
-Bubble Buddy or another grater
-Enough empty bottles or a jerrycan to store 3 liter soap

-3 liter water
-100 gram cleaning soap

I suggest using the Bubble Buddy cleaning bar, it’s organic and works really well. However, all kinds of Marseille, Marsiglia, Castile and other cleanings soaps will work. Please note that some bars might be based on palm oil so check the ingredients before you buy them.

Okey, let’s get started.

First grate the soap.
If you use a steel grate be careful with your finger tips when you approach the end of the bar.
This will take a few minutes, if you feel lazy and own a blender that can chop ice or nuts, soap will work too.

Add the soap and water to a pan and bring to a boil.

Boil for a few minutes and stir every now and then until all soap shreds are dissolved.

Turn the heat of and leave to cool down for a few hours or a night.

When the soap is completely cooled down it’s ready.
Some soaps might cause the soap to ‘gel’, in that case stir a bit more and a table spoon of baking soda.

Poor the liquid soap in the bottles with the help of a funnel.

This soap can serve many purposes:

-multi purpose cleaning for floors, kitchens, windows etc.
-dish washing soap
-laundry detergent

This liquid soap can also be used as a base for other cleaning product recipes. My favorite recipe is to make a cleaning spray with it so I can cleaning the countertop and table in seconds.

Fill an old or refillable spray bottle with 200 ml liquid cleaning soap, 300 ml hot water and 4 tablespoons of baking soap. Shake for a few seconds and it’s ready to go.
