Liquid soap recipe

Liquid soap is not more hygienic than bars of soap, however it is much more expensive because you buy a lot of water and a plastic bottle. If you are a fan of liquid soap anyway you can use this recipe to make safe, organic, cheap and plastic free liquid soap.

Let’s take a look at these household economics first:
So one bar costs €4,70

It can make 6 x 500 ml bottles of liquid soap at 78 cents per bottle
or
It can refill 12 hand soap pumps at 39 cents each
or
It can make 15 bottles of cleaning spray at 23 cents each

I suggest to use the whole bar and make a lot, the soap will last a long time.

Stuff you need

○ Mixer
○ Large 4 or 5 L pan
○ Bubble Buddy or another grater
○ Funnel
○ Enough empty bottles or a jerrycan to store 3 liter soap

Ingredients

-3 liter water
-100 gram cleaning soap

I suggest using the Bubble Buddy cleaning bar, it’s organic and works really well. However, all kinds of Marseille, Marsiglia, Castile and other cleanings soaps will work. Please note that some bars might be based on palm oil so check the ingredients before you buy them.

Okey, let’s get started.

First grate the soap.

If you use a steel grate be careful with your finger tips when you approach the end of the bar.

This will take a few minutes, if you feel lazy and own a blender that can chop ice or nuts, soap will work too.

Boil for a few minutes and stir every now and then until all soap shreds are dissolved.

Turn the heat off and leave to cool down for a few hours or a night.

When the soap is completely cooled down it’s ready.

Some soaps might cause the soap to ‘gel’, in that case stir a bit more and a table spoon of baking soda.

Poor the liquid soap in the bottles with the help of a funnel.

This soap can serve many purposes:
○ multi purpose cleaning (for floors, kitchens, windows etc.)
○ dish washing soap
○ laundry detergent
○ handsoap

This liquid soap can also be used as a base for other cleaning product recipes. My favorite recipe is to make a cleaning spray with it so I can cleaning the countertop and table in seconds.

Fill an old or refillable spray bottle with 200 ml liquid cleaning soap, 300 ml hot water and 4 tablespoons of baking soap. Shake for a few seconds and it’s ready to go.
